Gods of YalaradThis document is a list of the gods which are worshipped in Yalarad. Yalarad is a mythical place which is the setting for my Mage Winds AD&D campaign. Every so often there is a cataclysmic event known as Aeon. This event is the only time that the gods can mate productively and conceive another generation of Gods. The succeeding generations of Gods have always been smaller than the previous, and there is the fear that there will be no new Gods. This isn't much of a problem as the current Gods are all immortal, but it still troubles some of them nonetheless and these Gods work toward another Aeon. In general, the "good" Gods work against Aeon and the "evil" Gods work for it. The mortal creatures who inhabit Yalarad are not generally in favour of Aeon, mainly because the event is so cataclysmic that no life has ever survived it. There is very little knowledge of previous Aeons, and though it is known that there was intelligent life in them very little is known about that life. No one knows where the original eight "Elder Gods" came from. To see a family tree of the Gods, click here. Generation 1: The Elder GodsELUCIDOR, LN(G) "Keeper of the Rules"The eldest of the eight first gods, Elucidor is generally recognized by the other gods as the final authority. He wields much power and holds the Gods' court from the Halls of Light. The Gods are supposed to abide by a set of rules but, as far as they know, their trespasses go unheeded. Elucidor believes that there is a higher purpose than even the Gods, and he is charged with enforcing the rules because of this. He has a harder time with the evil and chaotic gods -- as expected -- but he generally uses his superior powers to keep even the most diehard rule-breakers in line. Justice Symbol: Empty balance Month: early winter HADAN, CN(G) "Smith of the Gods."Maker of all things magical and wondrous, Hadan is the chief architect for the gods. His building may take place on any plane, and he can create anything -- from a simple tool (albeit magical) to the most intricate marvel. He is only limited by the technology of the being(s) he is creating for as he may never create for himself. Other gods always are asking him for special equipment for their emissaries. He lives alone in a deep cave somewhere on Yalarad. Creation Symbol: Anvil or hammer Month: Autumn DOU, CG "Goddess of Actions"Not a god of careful foresight, Dou is the most active of the "good" gods on the PM, she will take a ploy into her head and then there is no stopping her -- she will take off until the deed is done. It is better that PM beings do not interfere with her schemes as they usually do not harm anyone and she can be very single-minded when she wants. Dance Symbol: Wing Month: Early summer THOT, LG "God of Deep Logic"Haste is not Dou's mate's failure -- rather lack of it is. Thot will ponder a question until it works itself out, then he will ponder the reasons and consequences of that action or another to do with the problem at hand. In other words, the two compliment one another very well. Dou keeps Thot moving and Thot keeps Dou from killing all of the PM inhabitants in some fool plot of hers. Intelligence Symbol: Book Month: Late winter URAN. CG "Entertainer of the Gods"Writer of poems and bittersweet plays, Uran is the most loyal of the Gods to the "leader", Elucidor. He lampoons other Gods and major PM figures in his plays -- but never Elucidor himself. Only the highest level clerics or God's emissaries ever get to witness these plays, and if they do they usually believe they've had some sort of meaningful vision when really they were simply exposed to the Gods' version of a soap opera. Entertainment Symbol: Pen Month: Summer TURAK. CE "Evil-doer of the Gods"Turak hates all things living and does much to alleviate his feelings. He never goes to the PM himself as he has been cursed by Elucidor to be mortal there -- it is feasible that some lucky adventurer could kill him (oh joy). For this reason he keeps a low profile. He commands the Drow in the underworld and is the force behind the Portal of the Dark Ones. He did not create the Mind Gems, however. Hatred Symbol: Leering mask Month: Winter MLEOU. N "Fate-Weaver of Men"Weaver of destinies for all men (that means all races), Mleou does the typical weaving of the tapestry shtick. It is said that she weaves the very soil and rock on which all the peoples of Yalarad live. Fate Symbol: Small tapestry Month: Spring FAHN. NG "Goddess of Magic"From Fahn comes the discipline of controlling the magical manna. She spends much of her time studying and experimenting with the forces of nature and magic, thus trying to extend the power of her worshippers, and herself in the process. On Yalarad she is failing miserably -- the forces of magic are much more accessible than the forces of nature. Magic Symbol: Pentigram Month: Late summer Generation 2: The Second GenerationLous & Raeb . CE "Betrayers of the Faith"Lous mated with Raeb outside of Aeon, and both were cursed as a result. They started as N, but are now jaded and bitter. Their curse was they would desire Mortal things, and as gods, not be able to enjoy them. They are materialistic and self-centered. Both are always on the PM hatching one evil plot or another. They do not stay in one place very long and travel as a couple with a somewhat sinister relationship hinted at. Torture Symbol: Two snakes entwined Frome. N "Goddess of Perspective"Frome searches for the objective opinion. She tries to weigh all aspects of a problem equally before answering any question. For this reason, her answers are generally not what the questioner wanted to hear. She works often with Elucidor and Thot to determine the best course of action of persuasion on the PM. Justice Symbol: Equal weights of different materials Bligh. L "Encrypter of Laws"Not related to the (in)famous sea-captain, Bligh is the Gods' scribe so to speak, though he gets carried away sometimes. He creates codes and uses them to place the oral tradition laws onto longer lasting media, such as stone or good parchment. He likes to have all contingencies accounted for and will spend endless amounts of time doing this for any given problem. He is usually stopped by the other Gods when they want something written -- the other Gods are all illiterate. Written languages Symbol: Quill Phote. CG "Music in Form"Wife to Hadan, Phote also is in the creation business. She works in sound rather than metals. All songs come from her -- from the stupidest bird-chirp to the greatest symphonies -- the inspiration comes from her. She plays a golden harp shaped like a flowing melody wired with strings of unicorn hair. Musical elements Symbol: Small harp, usable Generation 3: Generation of SorrowsNae . NE "Bringer of Sorrows"As the official distributor of sadness to the PM, Nae does her job well, breaking friendships, marriages and loves. Usually she uses external forces on the victims to try to weaken them as the true respect-love-friendship bond is unbreakable, even to a Goddess. Lawyers Symbol: Black sphere Meail. NG "Bringer of Joy"Meail has a hand in good friendships, marriages etc.... She detests Nae for obvious reasons and works to allow friendships to grow/prosper. True council Symbol: White sphere Saur. C(E) "Lord of the Air"All flying things bow to Saur as he controls their element. The winds are his domain, giving him control of some surface things as well as airborne things (ships, fires etc....). He is unpredictable and will follow a pattern only to change it at a random time. He does not meddle in the climate of Yalarad, just in specific areas. If he killed all the life on the planet, the other Gods would not be amused. Birds Symbol: Smoke Ooglykhan. CN "Lord of the Sea"Large bodies of water are Ooglykhan's dominion, he has control over them as Saur has over the air. He is not so antipathetic towards the users of his domain though. Water (Oceans) Symbol: Open bowl of water Kneal. LN "Lord of the Land"Land masses are Kneal's main concern, though she sometimes deals with sub-sea lands -- much to Ooglykhan's disgust. He and Kneal quarrel over that on occasion (they make waves). Kneal controls what the land is composed of and how it is shaped (except erosion). Earthquakes Symbol: A handful of soil or rock Generation 4: The Wandering GodsEra . NE "Goddess of Time Perception"Time, and all that flows in its inexorable path, is part of Era's domain. Many believe that she is the key to Aeon and that she alone has the power to trigger this event. She has not found this power yet, so she searches all of time to learn its secret. It was foretold by her mother, Nae, that she would trigger Aeon and the Gods would be renewed. Most pacts that she makes with mortals centre on her search for Aeon. Time perception Symbol: Hourglass Arepo . CE "Lord of Death"The end of every mortal's life is with Arepo. He is the end of the process we call life, and is the door to whatever may lie beyond, what that is, he refuses to say. Corpses Symbol: Dagger Re. N "Goddess of Life"The love of life is Re's main concern. Mortal creatures take pleasure in their lives -- the pain, the growth, the goals -- and Re helps them experience these. To her, sorrow is just as important to experience as joy and both should be felt fully. Every mortal that is born has felt her touch. Birth Symbol: Two people entwined Generation 5: Gods of DeclineMaya. G "Goddess of Soul and Spirit"Creatures with that indescribable quality we call Soul are the domain of Maya. She desires that all Souls (or Spirits) be at peace. Sometimes, this can be accomplished only in death, so be it. Candles Symbol: Lone candle Ticion . LE "God of the Void"The vast emptiness between the flickers of light is where Ticion makes his home. The ultimate loner, he wanders, thinking. His visits to the PM are rare, and when he does visit it is always because of pressure on him from the other Gods. Lack of colour Symbol: Black cloth Generation 6: The Last GenerationAuth . E "The Hungerer"Auth does not know what his unquenchable desire is for, he only knows that he searches for something to put an end to his torment. He has tried every experience available in the local planes of existence without reducing his hunger in the least. It seems like every new experience only heightens his drive for the ultimate sensation. He will not find his fulfillment in this Aeon. Insatiable desire Symbol: Something killed for no reason |
